The Hoover Dam weighs 6.6 million tons. The Hoover Dam began being built in 1931 and was completed in 1936 as seen in the introduction of this film. The Dam was used in films such as, Superman The Movie (1978) directed by Richard Donner and Transformers (2007) Directed by: Michael Bay. The Dam is named in honor of late Herbert Clarke Hoover the 31st president of the United States of America thus turning itself into an American National Icon. Since the new bridge is up it save close to 20-30 minutes travel time. For the security checks and slow speed limits on the actual Dam are limited to around 25-45 MPH. There is also extensive security check points since post 9/11 incident. Tours are also not as extensive as they used to be.
