Is the trip from Las Vegas to Skywalk worth the trip or is it just a really expensive side trip?
Thanks for all the info………I don’t expect to be back on the west rim in this lifetime……..so …………its on my bucket list………..so I spend the day and the money and visit………….thanks to all………..
Got up super early to drive to Arizona and the edge of Grand Canyon West to experience the Skywalk. Little did we know there was 14 miles of corrugated, dirt road!!! Within a few miles, the ‘maintenance required’ light turned on in my 2007 Yaris!! It was a gut wrenching, tooth rattling ride. At the Skywalk ‘terminal’ we endured more wind and dust, porta-potties and loud helicopters landing across the street. A bus (with transmission issues) drove us on more dirt roads to the actual Skywalk. Was the chance to walk 4000 feet above the Grand Canyon floor worth $80 each? (plus the locker rental to put all the stuff you’re not allowed to take on the glass) They do, however, give you cute booties to slip over your shoes and take a picture of you in them, for a mere $25 !! On a positive note, this side of the Grand Canyon is not part of the national park system, so there are no fences to keep you from the very edge. The Colorado River is close below winding through the beautiful red canyon. The food was actually good, but served on paper plates with plasticware. We were horrified to watch the wind blow them right into the canyon. For every positive, there was a negative… a 50/50, expensive experience. Oh, then it rained… and there was no shelter, walking through puddles and mud to get back to the car (then had another 14 miles of unpaved road to endure!)
Driving from Las Vegas, a day trip to Zion National Park with kids, any suggestions what area should we plan on seeing? Also, what is the weather like over there in early October?
I’ll have checked out a site (http://www.travelwest.net/cities/lasvegas) that listed such places like the Grand Canyon, Mount Charleston, Zion National Park, and Valley of Fire. What are some other fun destinations?
We will be driving from northern Arizona to Vegas in early March and don’t have a lot of time but would like to visit either of the parks. Which one is more worthwhile to visit? And how long is the drive to either one from Kingman?
The closest I’ve even come close to there is driving on the 15 highway towards Las Vegas. Would a trip out to Death Valley from LA for a couple days be worth it?
Vegas is a great place to plan a trip to the canyon. You got the West Rim and the South Rim to choose from. Daily departures. Lots of great combo trips (boat ride, Skywalk, ATV trips), too. So take a Grand Canyon helicopter tour and see this Seventh Wonder of the World...
Grand Canyon Bus
The most economical way to see the Grand Canyon? The bus, of course. These luxury motor coaches get you there in comfort and style. All-inclusive, they come with lunch and free hotel shuttle service. Grand Canyon bus tours are a great day trip. This is definitely a "must-do" Las Vegas activity.
Grand Canyon Airplanes
Take a canyon plane ride and see it in comfort. These flight are fast, too. From Vegas, the South Rim is just 45 minutes! Planes seat up to 19 people and are have been customized from nose to tail for sightseeing. Take a Grand Canyon plane ride and you'll see in 50 minutes what would take days on the ground.
Looking for a fabulous Vegas activity? Take a helicopter! Choppers are the only way to see The Strip, The West Rim, Hoover Dam and more! Nothing beats getting airborne when visiting Sin City. Go here for more info about Las Vegas helicopters... first...
